Lot Description
An Oyster Shucker's Porcelain Occupational Shaving Mug
Late 19th/Early 20th Century
identified Vito Strammello and depicting a man standing at a counter removing oysters from their shells, the counter laid with mignonette sauce and other vinaigrettes, with additional baskets of unshucked oysters to either side; set against a floral wrap.

Height 3 3/4 inches.
According to the historical record, a Vito Strammiello (1871-1944) immigrated to the United States from Salandra, Italy in 1893. The U.S. Federal Census of 1900 records that Strammiello lived in Hartford, Connecticut, where he worked as a grocer.
