Lot Description
American School, 19th Century
A Family Record Identified to the Kincheloe Family

17 x 22 inches.
Isaac Newton Kincheloe (1837-1900) and Cyrena Caroline Guseman (1837-1916) wed in Adams, Illinois on June 12, 1862. Three months later, he enlisted in Quincy and served as 2nd Lieutenant in Company D, 78th Illinois Union Infantry Regiment until his honorable discharge at Shelbyville, Tennessee in July of 1863 following a severe illness.
After the war, Isaac worked as a farmer until he was appointed Postmaster by President McKinley in 1897. He and Cyrena had five children together, including son Charles (1865-1938), who served as a member of the Illinois Legislature and as assistant to the United States Attorney General.
