GESNER, Johannes Matthias (1691-1761). Novus Linguae et Eruditionis Romanae Thesaurus. [Leipzig]: Impensis Casp. Fritschii Vidvae et Bernh. Chr. Breitkopfii, 1749.
4 volumes in 2, folio (400 x 249 mm). Engraved frontispiece portrait of Gesner, title-page printed in red and black. (Some toning and offsetting, a few leaves with dampstaining.) Late 18th-century brown diced russia prize binding gilt, edges sprinkled red (joints starting with lower cover of vol. I detaching, some staining, moderate wear to extremities).
FIRST EDITION. Gesner, a classical scholar, was a professor of rhetoric at Gottingen and its librarian.
