[LITERATURE - BOOKS INTO FILM]. A group of 3 FIRST EDITIONS, each adapted to film, comprising:


1) STEINBECK, John. The Moon is Down. New York: The Viking Press, 1942. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE with “March 1942” stated on copyright page with no additional printings and with the large full stop on p.112. In the FIRST ISSUE DUST JACKET with the "$2.00" price. The Moon is Down was adapted to film in 1943 and directed by Irving Pichel. Goldstone & Payne A16.b.

2) BURGESS, Anthony. A Clockwork Orange. London et al: Heinemann, 1962. FIRST EDITION, third state, in purple cloth binding in the second issue dust jacket with "18s" price on front flap. Adapted to film in 1971 by Stanley Kubrick, A Clockwork Orange was critically acclaimed and sparked debates about censorship.

3) CAPOTE, Truman. In Cold Blood. New York: Random House, [1965]. FIRST TRADE EDITION, FIRST PRINTING (stated), IN THE FIRST ISSUE DUST JACKET with the 1/66 code on front flap and "Publishers of the American College Dictionary and the Modern Library" on rear flap. In 1967, Richard Brooks directed a film adaptation of In Cold Blood, and received Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Together, 3 works in 3 volumes, all 8vo, all in original cloth and in dust jackets, condition generally good.
