Lot Description

**Smith & Wesson Brazilian First Contract Model 1917/1937 .45 ACP Revolver

.45 ACP. 5.5" barrel length. SN: 191157. Blued metal refinish overall with color case hardened hammer and trigger mounting smooth pattern walnut grips. Double action six-shot hand ejector intended to be charged with full or half moon clips of .45 ACP ammunition. Item features a pinned barrel on a five screw frame, and mounts topstrap with rectangular cut rear notch and half moon front blade sights. Further features the serrated trigger typical of Brazilian contract revolvers. Right sideplate is struck with the {Seal of Brazil} above the date 1937, the year this model was adopted by the Brazilian Republic. Inventory number 10010 struck into the backstrap. Serial numbers match on the butt, cylinder, barrel, and star extractor. Right grip panel serial number does not match, indicating grips were likely replaced when the revolver was re-arsenaled. The serial number range places this revolver among the first contract pieces that were sent to Brazil in 1938. Further marks include MADE IN U.S.A. to the right frame, and a small Smith & Wesson monogram trade mark to the left. Barrel flanks struck with the standard caliber and SMITH & WESSON maker marks. Top of the barrel displays the two-line address and patent reading SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A./PATENTED FEB. 6.06. SEPT. 14. 09. DEC. 29. 14. Import marked CAI ST. ALB. VT below the barrel.
