Lot Description

Fine Victorian Gilt Hilt & Etched Blade Court Sword by Charles Webb

29" straight tapered spear point blade, .75" wide at the ricasso. 34.875" in overall length. 5.875" hilt with gilt brass knuckle bow, faceted urn shaped pommel cap, pointed langets and a forward swept disc shaped upper quillon. Dark brown reeded grip appears to be horn. Blade decorated with flowing acid etched foliate motifs with the central image on both sides being a {CROWN} over a highly stylized and intertwined "VR". Reverse blade etched in four lines C. WEBB/23/OLD BOND St/LONDON. The sword is accompanied by a gilt brass mounted leather scabbard with a shell motif frog hook. A gilt bullion and ribbon sword knot is attached to the grip. Charles Webb worked in London circa 1873-1857.
