Lot Description
19th/20th Century Scottish Sgian-Dubh
3.7" blade length. 7.5" overall with scabbard and hilt. Straight single edged blade with single fullers running 1.5" along the back of the blade below textured gripping serrations, and mounting carved ebony grip with silver fittings and a leather sheath. Blade is polished bright and unsigned. The Hilt is composed of wood carved into the form of an interwoven Celtic knot terminating in palm leaves along the pommel. Socket and pommel cap are composed of silver and feature engraved wiggle line borders surrounded by punch dot patterns. Sheath features a silver chape and locket, the former displaying three silver smiths' stamps. Locket is engraved with four dragons woven into a Celtic knot surrounding an unsigned escutcheon. Further knot scroll flows along the locket with two dragons meeting at the tip. Comes with a sales receipt Dated November, 22, 1989 when it was sold by Colin C. Bowdell of Armoury Antiques, Gray's Antique Market, London.
