Lot Description

Lot of Six Attractive Kozuka Handles

1.) Shibuichi kozuka with gold, silver, shakudo, and copper inlays depicting a scholar at desk with a journal. Kozuka is signed, "Hamano Toshiyuki" to backside. About 3.75" x 0.5" kozuka, housed in a 3" x 5.75" x 1.25" wood box.

2.) Kozuka with hold, silver, and shakudo inlays depicting a tiger swimming across a river with a cub on back. Signed to backside with five character mei.

3.) Kozuka with gold inlays depicting Daruma with large staring eyes, staring through a cave wall. Signed "Shosui" to backside.

4.) Shakudo kozuka with gold inlays depicting men in the good fortune festival. Takabori high relief carving, background of nanakoji raised dimpled surface.

5.) Shakudo kozuka with gold and copper inlays depicting immortal being, Chokara Sennin, summoning a horse from a gourd. Representing the Japanese expression "hyotan kara koma" which tranlsates to "A horse appearing from a gourd." It is a reminder that life can be unpredictable and that the unexpected can happen at any moment.

6.) Copper kozuka depicting a friendly Oni in garb of a Buddhist priest with traditional gong, about to carry a wisteria maiden across a river.

All items are 3.75" x 0.5" kozukas, housed in 3" x 5.75" x 1.25" wood boxes. Items 4, 5, and 6 are in the same box together.
