Item shows some weak British {Broad Arrow} marks to the bayonet lug with further post-Independence Indian {Ashoka} marks to the receiver, and an asterisk to the barrel. Serial numbers appear force matched to major components as part of an arsenal rebuild. Right receiver shows importer marking C.A.I. ST ALB VT/NO 1 MK III 303 INDIA.
