Lot Description
**Winchester Model 1911 SL Autoloader
Manufactured 1912
12 gauge. 26" barrel length. SN: 26442. Blued metal finish. Two piece walnut stock has a plain semi pistol grip and beavertail forearm. Semi automatic shotgun with a frame notch rear sight and blade front sight. Item features a mechanism that is cocked by pushing and depressing the barrel into the frame, knurling around barrel grip, tube magazine, and rubber recoil pad.
Known as the "widowmaker" or "head-buster", this gun was Winchester's attempt to manufacture a semi automatic shotgun without violating patents already copyrighted by John Browning. The action featured a poor design (ingenious at the time) that would inadvertently cause the bolt to fire after depressing the barrel. If operated incorrectly, this design flaw can result in the handler severely injuring themself.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
