Lot Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Rifle
Spanish American War
45-70. 32.625" barrel. SN: 436553 (mfg. ca1890). Blued and color casehardened finish, walnut stock. Single shot breechloading metallic cartridge military rifle with 1884 pattern Buffington adjustable ladder rear sight, fixed front sight blade on socket bayonet lug base, and sling and stacking swivels. Lock marked U.S./SPRINGFIELD with a {Spread Winged Eagle} and breechblock marked U.S./MODEL/1884. No cartouche or firing proof are present in the wood. Breech with V/P/{Eagle Head} inspection marks as well as additional small P and A marks. Rifle features a low arch breech with steel firing pin, three-click tumbler, smooth trigger, two-piece triggerguard and solid buttplate without trap door. The rifle includes a correct pattern cleaning rod.
