U.S. Springfield Model 1866 2nd Allin Conversion Rifle
Indian Wars
.50-70. 36.75" barrel. SN: NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, walnut stock. Single shot breechloading metallic cartridge alteration of a Civil War muzzleloading musket via the Allin "Trapdoor" system. 1865 dated altered Springfield Model 1864 lock, breechblock marked 1866/{Eagle Head}, counterpane with crisp WPT (William P Tayor) and ESA (Erskine S. Allin) cartouches. Retains the correct Model 1866 leaf rear sight, combination musket front sight and socket bayonet lug and two sling swivels that may be later additions. A jag head cleaning rod and US Model 1855 socket bayonet are also included.
