Lot Description

Ottoman Yatagan Sword with Etched Blade and Silver Mounted Scabbard

23.25" blade length. 31.5" overall with hilt and scabbard. Single edge spear point recurve blade with double offset quill fullers to both sides. Blade is etched with silver scrollwork and cross-hatching to both sides, as well as what appears to be an Arabic inscription on left side. Blade also appears to have an armorer's mark on left side, and Islamic three-crescent symbol stamped to both sides. Spine of blade is chiseled with a chain link pattern. Hilt has ivory grips with winged pommels, as well as stamped and chiseled mounts that appear to be of silver, copper, and brass, with spots of scattered gold plating. There are inlays to mounts including seven pieces of coral to straps, and two red gems to both sides of collar/guard. Includes a leather scabbard wrapped with sheets of silver that have been stamped with Arabesque patterns and floral scrollwork.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
