Lot Description
19th Century Drum by John C. Haynes & Co.
Snare drum, 16.5 in. dia, 13.75 in. ht., with red and white painted wood counterhoops, with rope tensioners, replaced plastic tugs, and six-string gut snare. Motif features American eagle with shield featuring arrows and olive branches beneath thirteen stars. Interior label marked with John C. Haynes Court Street, Boston address.
John C. Haynes & Co., the musical division of the Oliver Ditson company manufactured drums for the Federal army from 1863-1865. Usually known for their unusually dramatic eagle motifs, this more plain version is likely a post-war example.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
