Lot Description
Rare 1st Minnesota Volunteers Corps Badge
Clover-shaped Second Corps insignia, 1.75 x 1.5 in., with stick pin, identified to the "First Minn. Vols." Ca 1860s or after.
A scarce badge representing the 1st Minnesota Volunteers, the first body of troops raised by Minnesota for Civil War service. It was among the first regiments of any state offered for national service and participated in all the major campaigns of the Army of the Potomac through the fall of 1863, most importantly the dramatic charge at the battle of Gettysburg.
