Lot Description

[Art] Hodgkin, Howard, and Susan Sontag: The Way We Live Now

Sontag, Susan, and Howard Hodgkin
The Way We Live Now
London: Karsten Schubert, (1991). First and limited edition, #186/200 numbered copies signed by Sontag and Hodgkin (from a total edition of 243). 4to. Illustrated with six etchings with aquatint and hand-coloring by Hodgkin (four double-page and two folding). Publisher's beige paper-covered boards, in original hand-painted dust-jacket; all edges trimmed; in tissue glassine, light spotting and wear to glassine; a few very light spots to endpapers. A Century of Artists Books, p. 198

A lovely copy of this collaborative work between Sontag and Howard Hodgkin. Sontag's text first appeared in The New Yorker in 1986, and was one of the first stories about the AIDS epidemic by a major writer. This edition was sold to exclusively benefit AIDS-related organizations in England and America.
