(iv), 172 pp. Publisher's cinnamon cloth-covered boards, stamped in gilt, cocked, ownership signature at top of front free endpaper; very small spotting in top edge of some leaves at rear; in original pale pink dust-jacket, printed in blue, designed by Vanessa Bell, spine and upper panel flaps skillfully restored. First English edition, one of 3,040 copies published in October 1929. Woolf's text originates from two lectures given by her in October 1928 to students at the two women’s colleges of Cambridge University, Newnham and Girton. First published as an essay entitled “Women and Fiction” in Forum, in March, 1929. 

A foundational work of feminist literary criticism.
