First edition, first issue, in original monthly parts (with "Rigaud" for "Blandois" in No. XV, and Author's correction slip in No. XVI). Illustrated with an etched frontispiece, etched vignette title-page, and 38 etched plates by Hablot K. Browne ("Phiz"), including the eight “dark plates”. Publisher's limp printed blue-green wrappers, light to moderate wear along extremities and spines, spine largely darkened as usual; lacking second ad slip in No. V, all ads in Nos. VIII, XII, and XVII, and second ad in No. XVIII; plates foxed as usual; in quarter burgundy morocco lift-off case and chemise. Hatton and Cleaver, pp. 305-330; Eckel, pp. 82-85
