Lot Description

A Wedgwood Pearlware Plate Made for King George III, UK, 1810

Glazed and gilded earthenware
Produced as part of a tea and breakfast service made for King George III to mark his Golden Jubilee in 1810. John Sandon describes the pattern as “… one of their standard Japan patterns…. [to which] a border of the Order of the Garter was added, and to each a small reserved panel, a portrait head of George III depicted as a Roman emperor” (p 26). This service has remained almost entirely intact in the hands descendants of George IV through the FitzGeorge line, with very few pieces in private or institutional collections
Impressed “WEDGWOOD”
Dia: 8 ¼ in.
