A Wedgwood Arnold Machin Designed Chess Set, UK, 1968
Stoneware
Comprising a full set of chess pieces in black basalt and white jasper and a marquetry chess board with fitted storage for the pieces to the interior. The pieces were designed by Arnold Machin (1911-1999) in 1940s, with full sets produced in limited numbers in the 1960s and 1970s, the full sets far more finely finished than the individual kings and queens made for mass market retail
All pieces impressed “WEDGWOOD” “MADE IN ENGLAND” “AM” “68” (date code for 1968)
