An Aesthetic Movement Zsolnay lustreware clock vase, Pecs, Hungary, with works by Japy Frères & Cie, Paris, retailed by J.E. Caldwell & Co., Philadelphia, PA, 1878-1879
Of disc form with flared rim, the neck with applied twisting dragon attacking a perched peacock, with flowering branches beneath, the body and neck painted with butterflies and insects, with two applied handles in the form of arched felines, on scrolled bracket base allover decorated with spirals and floral motifs, with enamel dial faintly inscribed, “J.E. Caldwell & Co./ Philadelphia,” the underside marked with five churches mark, “Zsolnay Pecs/ TJM,” and impressed numerals, “1110/ 13," the clock works marked, “Japy Frères & Cie/ Gde Med. D'Honneur.”
