Signed Figbash Bat Doll
No place, no date. Cloth “Figbash” bat doll, filled with rice,  hand-sewn and signed by Gorey. Approximately 6 in. tall (152 mm), 19 in. wingspan (483 mm). Black patterned cloth. Original signed tag: “Figbash / Designed life-size / And sewn by hand / And filled with rice / by Edward Gorey” Toledano p. 156. 

A fine example of this scarce Gorey collectible. 

“Later to recent beanbag animals include elephants, frogs and rabbits which came in assorted fabric designs and the Figbash character, which came in two varieties. The original was done in black fabric only and was paired with the lettered copies of The Raging Tide. The later Figbash characters were done in numerous colors and patterns and are distinguished by the splayed fingers…They were often sold at Gorey's stage productions.” (Toledano p. 156)
