Philadelphia: William Duane, 1808-1818 (Vol, I, 1818; Vol. II, 1809; Vol. III, 1808; Vols. IV-V, 1809; Vol. VI, 1817, all dates as issued). In six volumes. 8vo. Edited by William Temple Franklin. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece portrait of Franklin in Vols. I and IV, engraved vignette title-pages in each volume, two engraved facsimiles in Vol. I, and 12 engraved plates (some folding) in Vol. III. Full contemporary tree calf, red and green morocco spine labels, stamped in gilt, boards, joints, and extremities rubbed and variously worn, spines dry and chipped, spine ends chipped; all edges trimmed; book-plate of Isaac Collins, Jr. (1787-1863) on front paste-down of each volume, with his signature at front of each volume, except Vol. IV; foxing to text and plates and endpapers; some leaves at front of Vol. III starting, plate XI in same loose. "This edition was begun in 1808, but owing to the delay of Temple Franklin in printing his edition (with whom Duane had agreed to an exchange of material), it was not completed till 1818. The editor added many pieces to what had hitherto been printed as Franklin's, derived almost wholly from the books and MSS. which came into his possession by his marriage with the widow of Benjamin Franklin Bache... The third volume contains Franklin's scientific writings, and plates related to his work in electricity, maritime observations, a reprint of his famed Gulf Stream map, and the Franklin Stove.
