(New York): Henry Bill, 1862. Lithograph printed in color. Creasing from old folds; very light mat burn. 13 1/2 x 19 in. (243 x 483 mm). In mat and in frame, 21 1/2 x 27 1/2 in. (546 x 698 mm).
Depicting the famous clash of the Civil War ironclads: the Union Monitor versus the Confederate Merrimack, at the Battle of Hampton Roads, on March 9, 1862. Other ships featured, and labeled at bottom, include the USS Cumberland, Congress, and Minnesota as well as the CSS Jamestown and Yorktown.
A beautifully executed print.
