Illustrations and initials letters designed and hand-colored by Edith Harwood. Publisher's full vellum stamped in blind and lettered in gilt; all edges untrimmed; in cloth-covered slip case; book-plate of renowned collector J.R. Abbey on front paste-down. Ransom, p. 266; Tomkinson, p. 73; Franklin, p. 199 Number six in the Essex House Press's Great Poems Series, described by Colin Franklin as "The most skillful and original of them all, a charming small work of art..." (The Private Presses, p. 77) John Roland Abbey (1894-1969) was an author and a High Sheriff of Sussex. He reportedly owned the largest collection of Private Press books of his time. A beautiful copy.
