Lot Description
[Declaration of Independence] [New Jersey] Hart, John Colonial Currency Note, signed
Isaac Collins: no place (Burlington), March 25, 1776. 2 1/4 x 4 in. (57 x 101 mm) (sight). Engraved New Jersey colonial currency note, signed by Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey, John Hart (1713-1797), for three shillings; counter-signed by John Johnston and John Stevens, Jr. In mat and in frame, 11 x 9 in. (279 x 228 mm).
A fine, well preserved example of John Hart's signature from the year 1776. Most often found on New Jersey colonial currency, Hart's autograph is typically worn or faded, due to the authorized notes constantly changing hands while in issue.
