Lot Description
New-York, August 14, 1786. Partially-printed land grant, accomplished in a secretarial hand, and signed by George Clinton as Governor of New York, for Peter Byvanck, Garrit Abeel, and Evert Byvanck as executors for the estate of Evert Byvanck, for land in Montgomery County, being Lot 11, "between the Cookguago Branch of the Delaware and the Susquehannah Rivers"; counter-signed by Secretary of the Land Office, Lewis A. Scott; with original paper-covered wax pendant seal of New York at bottom; docketed on verso. Creasing from contemporary folds, repaired on verso with sello tape; vertical tear running through "G" in Clinton's signature; scattered short closed tears along folds and edges.
George Clinton (1739-1812) served as the first governor of New York, from 1777-95 and then again from 1801-04. A prominent Democratic-Republican, Clinton served as fourth Vice-President, under Presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, from 1804-12.
