Contemporary quarter tan calf over marbled paper-covered boards, stamped in gilt, likely expertly rebacked, extremities and spine ends worn, boards somewhat rubbed; original free endpapers reused as paste-downs; front hinge slightly worn; offsetting from frontispiece onto title-page; bottom corner of D2 torn away, but not affecting text. With the armorial book-plate of Lieutenant-General Pringle Taylor (1796-1886), former British Lieutenant-Governor of Jamaica, on front paste-down.
