New York, etc.: Goupil & Co., 1854. Line and mezzotint engraving with later hand-coloring; printed by Jas(on). Irwin. Engraved by John Sartain after the painting by George Caleb Bingham. Scattered wear along sheet edges; remnants from old mount along top edge verso. 29 x 36 ½ in. (737 x 927 mm). In mat and in frame, 36 x 42 in. (927 x 1,067 mm). Bloch, The Paintings of George Caleb Bingham: A Catalogue Raisonné, 260
The County Election is the first (of three) in George Caleb Bingham's famed series of American election scenes, painted from 1853-54. It is followed by Stump Speaking (painted in 1852) and The Verdict of the People (painted in 1854-55).
A handsome example with bright hand-coloring.
