Marcy, "to affix the Seal of the United States to the pardon granted to William Willis;" docketed in pencil on verso; creasing from contemporary folds; scattered light wear to extremities.

Records from the National Archives indicate that William Willis was convicted of assault on two people and sentenced to three months in jail with a fine of $5.

Over the course of his four years in office, Pierce pardoned 142 people for crimes ranging from counterfeiting, maritime larceny, and even inciting revolts.
