Lot Description

[Prints] Riggs, Robert Pool

Circa 1933. Lithograph. Signed, tilted, and inscribed, "To Sam Ziegler, Jr.", by Riggs, in pencil, along bottom edge; signed in stone by Riggs, bottom left. Approximately 20 x 16 in. (508 x 406 mm) (sight). In mat and in frame, 23 x 28 in. (584 x 711 mm). Unexamined out of mat. Bassham 33

This print was likely set at the Germantown Boys Club, in Philadelphia. As Ben Bassham explains in his catalogue raisonne of Riggs's work, Riggs and other artists of the 1920s and 30s made nude male bathers a popular subject, and used the Germantown Boys Club, as well as the Y.M.C.A., as the setting of some of their prints. An excellent impression, inscribed by Riggs.
