Lot Description

[Native-Americana] Curtis, Edward S. The Three Chiefs-Piegan

Circa 1900. Orotone. Approximately 10 1/2 x 13 1/2 (267 x 343 mm) (sight). Signed in negative by Curtis, lower right; original Curtis Studio, Seattle, Washington, label mounted to verso of frame. Unexamined out of original Curtis studio-designed batwing frame, 16 x 19 in. (406 x 483 mm).

A handsome example of Curtis's most desirable image, luminously printed in his orotone printing method, and presented in its original batwing frame designed by Curtis. "A Blackfoot picture on the prairies of Montana. Rarely do we see a picture which renders so well the spirit of the prairies and plains of the great northwest." (From the mounted label on rear of frame).
