New York: Doubleday, Page & Co., 1901. First edition. 8vo. viii, (ii), 330 pp. Illustrated with photogravure portrait frontispiece of Washington. Original maroon cloth, stamped in gilt, faint scratching in lower front board, hinges and spine ends rubbed; top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed; prelims starting; book-plate of influential landscape designer Warren H. Manning (1860-1938) on front paste-down.

New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1904. First edition. 8vo. x, 246 pp. Illustrated with portrait frontispiece of Washington, and 30 plates. Original maroon cloth, stamped in gilt, hinges rubbed, corners lightly worn, scattered light soiling to boards; top edge trimmed, other edges untrimmed; partially unopened.

A group of two handsome first editions, recounting Washington's life from slave to schoolmaster in Up From Slavery, and its sequel, Working with the Hands, covering his experience in industrial training at the Tuskegee Institute.
