[Fine Bindings] [Bennett] Hawthorne, Nathaniel The Scarlet Letter
London: Methuen & Company Limited, (1920). First edition thus. 4to. Profusely illustrated with 31 mounted color plates by Hugh Thomson. Bound in full black morocco, elaborately gilt, with scarlet leather onlay of the letter "A" on front board; marbled endpapers; all edges gilt; original decorated cloth covers bound in at rear; enclosed in a linen slip case and chemise. A fine copy.
A lovely example from The Bennett Book Studios, a fine book bindery in New York City established in the late 1920s by bookman and binder Whitman Bennett (1884-1968).
