Lot Description

A silver two-handled presentation cup Thomas Fletcher (1787-1866) and Sidney Gardiner (1787-1827), Philadelphia, PA, dated "1812"

The body engraved with inscription, "W.S. to his nephew Thomas C. Amory/ Nov. 29. 1812. (his day of baptism)/ ____"a newborn child,/ Thou sal'st, and wept, while all around thee smil'd/ Lo Live, that sinking in thy last long sleep,/ Thou calm may'st smile, while all around thee weep;/ Lo live, like HIM whose HONORED NAME thou hast,/ That Time shall know thee tho' thy life be past."; marked to underside.
