Original green pictorial cloth, stamped with Captain Nemo holding a sextant in gilt on front board, lettered in black and in gilt, spine darkened, spine ends worn, cloth split on same, bottom front board joint splitting, corners worn; all edges trimmed; front and rear hinges lightly worn; Contemporary gift inscription on second free leaf; ownership signature on title-page; scattered light spotting; book-plate of surgeon Dr. J. Chalmers DaCosta on front free endpaper, another book-plate on same. Myers 56.

John Chalmers DaCosta (1863-1933) was chairman and the first Samuel D. Gross Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
