Gould's monumental and expanded monograph on the toucan

London: Printed by Taylor and Francis, Published by the Author, (1852)-1854. Second edition. Folio. Illustrated with 51 hand-colored lithographic plates after Gould and Henry Constantine Richter, and one uncolored lithographic plate after G. Scharf, printed by Hullmandel and Walton. Contemporary full blue morocco, elaborately stamped in gilt, front board detached, spine panel starting, extremities and spine rubbed; all edges gilt; gilt dentelles; marbled endpapers; front blank loose; title-page, dedication, preface, and first page of introduction detached with front board; front free endpaper chipped at bottom corner; scattered chipping and brittleness to prelim edges; scattered soiling in margins of plates and texts; scattered minor off-setting from plates onto text; book-plate "Presented by W.P. Wheatland, to the Union Library of Hatboro November, 1920" on front paste-down and front blank.

John Gould's second, expanded, and revised edition of his first monograph of a bird family, including 18 additional plates not featured in the first edition of 1834.
