First edition, first printing (Todd's earliest issue; with red and blue title-page, green endpapers, half-title and verso of title-page in blue, "Stave I" on first page, 14-15 mm between gilt and blind stamp on front board, unbroken gilt "D" in Dickens on same, and unrevised text). 8vo. (viii), 166, (2) (ads) pp. Illustrated with hand-colored engraved frontispiece, three hand-colored engraved plates, and four black and white in-text engravings, by John Leech. Original brown cloth, stamped in blind and in gilt, two small stains on front board, lightly worn; all edges gilt; green endpapers faded; contemporary ownership signature at head of half-title; soiling to frontispiece and title-page; scattered minor spotting to text and plates; top corner of pp. 59-64 variously creased; front and rear hinge lightly worn; a few scattered check marks and underlinings in pencil; cocked; in red morocco solander box.
