Original black cloth stamped in gilt; patterned endpapers; top edges stained pinkish red, some faded, foxing to fore-edges of Volumes I and II, less so to IV and VI; light foxing to prelims in first volume, front an rear; in unclipped dust-jackets with foxing to verso of all volumes, six-inch closed tear to front panel of Volume VI repaired with sellotape to verso, largely invisible from recto, two short closed tears and a three-inch section of wrinkling in bottom edge of same, also obscured by pattern on dust-jacket.
