Lot Description

[Private Press] Blake, William Songs of Innocence and of Experience

Manchester: Manchester Etching Workshop, 1983. #17/35 copies of The Monochrome Edition. 8vo. From the prospectus: "The Monochrome Edition is limited to 35 copies and consists of nineteen prints: sixteen monochrome impressions printed without the plate-borders, a proof with borders of 'The Little Girl Lost,' and two hand-colored impressions of this same print, one in imitation of copy B, an early copy, and one in imitation of copy T, an elaborately painted late copy with frame lines. The impressions are presented loose in wrappers in a cloth-covered box; each print and copy is numbered in pencil." Also included, but uncalled for in the prospectus, is a hand-tinted "working proof" of the title-page of "Songs of Experience". There are also two colophon leaves, one for each title, stamped in blind and written in pencil. Also includes "The Art of William Blake's Illuminated Prints" by Joseph Viscomi, Manchester Etching Workshop, 1983. One of 200 copies printed. 25 pp. Stiff printed wrappers.
