Lot Description
An Aesthetic Movement mother-of-pearl inlaid mahogany tall case clock Retailed by Bailey, Banks & Biddle, Philadelphia, PA, Walter H. Durfee & Co., Providence, RI, late 19th century
With nine tubular bells, the large pendulum having repoussé figure of Death to disc, and the engraved and painted brass/metal moon dial face with carved and inlaid mother-of-pearl moon and roundels, and painted portraits to spandrels: William Shakespeare, John Milton, Oliver Cromwell, and Walter Raleigh and inscribed, "Bailey, Banks & Biddle, Philadelphia" ; the works marked to back, "Waltr H. Durfee & Co./ Providence RI", and the back of face plate engraved "Made in England."
