Philadelphia: R.T. Rawle, June, 1801. First Hot-Pressed edition. 8vo. (4), 430, 432-436, (1), 54, (2) pp. Illustrated with frontispiece portrait, one large folding map of Virginia at front, two full-page maps (Madison's Cave and Ohio River), and one folding plate view of the Natural Bridge; lacking folding table as called for in some copies. Original calf, front board detached but held on by original cords, rear board detached, boards rubbed, spine worn, blistered and starting to split, red morocco spine label, stamped in gilt; all edges trimmed; prelims toned and foxed; dampstaining to recto of frontispiece and title-page; folding map soiled, foxed, and slightly dampstained, some closed tears and chipping to edges and folds of same; top edge of title-page partially torn away, top edge of ad leaf entirely torn away; moderate to heavy foxing to text; some quires proud; some leaves at rear slightly sprung; old ownership signature and book-plate on front-paste-down.
