Paris: Editions du Jardin de Modes, (1931). First edition, first issue, with no elephant to copyright page. Folio. Illustrated in color throughout, with color pictorial endpapers. Publisher's quarter blue cloth over color pictorial boards in yellow, grey, brown, and red; spine ends frayed, corners bumped, other moderate edge wear, boards lightly rubbed with a few smudges; text block with light scattered soiling, slightly shaken with front hinge starting at title page. Occasional, minor internal dust smudging, slightly shaken - casing starting to loosen at title page gutter. First issue without an elephant to be seen on the copyright page, but oh, the evocative wonder of those profusely precocious-pachyderm-populated paste downs & free endpapers. First issue of the first edition of the first edition of the first Babar book; the adventures of Babar, known as the most famous Frenchman in the world, continue to this day. .
