Lot Description

[Sports] [Tennis] Tilden, William T., 2nd Match Play and the Spin of the Ball

[New York: American Lawn Tennis], [1925]. Edition De Luxe, #28/340 copies signed by Tilden, and editor S. Wallis Merrihew. Large 8vo. Illustrated with photogravure frontispiece and 96 plates on 48 leaves, primarily half-tone photos. Publisher's three-quarter black morocco and brick-red cloth, stamped in gilt to front board and spine, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed, lightly rubbed; pages toned and with scattered soiling. This copy prepared for Richard Smith Emmet and with his name printed on the title-page. Emmet was the son of Devereux Emmet, the prolific and pioneering American golf course architect.
