Head Quarters, Department of Ohio, Fort Henry, Tennessee: February 7, 1862. 1p. 4to. Autograph letter signed "U.S. Grant Big. Gen." with light to moderate creasing along old folds, lightly toned. Signed as U.S. Grant Brig. Gen. Framed with silver print reproduction of Mathew Brady’s portrait of Grant at Cold Harbor in 1864. To Capt. Henry Walke on destroying the Memphis Clarksville and Louisville Railroad bridge, 11 miles upriver from Fort Henry, “... I would request that you go up with your boat today and take some twenty men that I will furnish to do the job.”.
