Covers rubbed and worn; text moderately toned and foxed, a few bottom edges and bottom margins singed, ownership signature in ink dated 1843 of the American military officer W.S. Colquhoun at head of title-page, other scattered old annotations in ink, early 19th century newspaper clippings mounted on endpapers and front and back matter, a few clippings in text block, as well as an early 19th-century manuscript letter, giving an account of a successful medicinal treatment of gangrene, tipped in at front, old wax seal residue at head of the dedication page.
