To Dr. E(lgin) R(alston) L(ovell) Gould, "You will note that it is the New York Association and not a national association which Miss Holt represents...I feel obliged in spite of all my inclinations in the subject to maintain the position which I took..." Signed by Wilson as President on his White House letterhead, signature lightly faded and browned. Framed with bust photo of Wilson. Elgin Ralston Lovell Gould (1860-1915), social scientist, author, reformist New York City official, and friend of Wilson whom he met when they both attended John Hopkins University. A member of John Hopkins' first football team, Gould's published books include The Housing of Working People. .
