Lot Description
[Presidential] Johnson, Andrew Document, signed
Washington, May 1, 1866. 1p. Folio; 19 ½ x 16 inches, 495 x 412mm. Document presumed signed, but possibly stamped, by Johnson as President of the United States appointing Leonard Paulding as Commander in the [U.S.] Navy; countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles. Partly printed document with engraved vignettes, filled in with manuscript, and intact paper seal. On vellum. Johnson's stamped signature starting to fade, Welles' signature fading; creased along old folds, glued to mat and moderately affecting face of document.
