Gil Elvgren is known for his work for Brown & Bigelow, a publisher of promotional calendars and other materials. Previously, he worked for the Lois F. Dow Co., painting pin-ups for calendars. This book was intended to be sent to men overseas during the war, and includes a self-mailer on the back cover. Prints are beginning to loosen and detach, as they were designed to be torn out and pinned up or framed.
