Lot Description
[Counter-Culture] New University Conference
1970. Printed poster.
23 x 17 1/2 in. (58.4 x 44.5cm)
Double-sided poster for the New University Conference at NYU, beginning June 15, 1970. The New University Conference, started in March 1968 by graduate students and faculty, was a national, radical organization involved in educational reforms, anti-war protests, and women's liberation. By 1970 it had over 2,000 paid members. It ended in 1972, after its membership dropped dramatically and it went bankrupt. Featuring lectures such as "How to Liberate a University" and "WOMEN: 'Checking it out'". With an image of Bobby Seale in chains on verso; Seale was on trial in 1970 in the New Haven Black Panther Trials. A remarkable survival.
